The Kumano Shrine

Located on a low hill behind the JR Tanesashi Kaigan Station, this shrine has been a site of devotion for tutelary deities since long ago.

According to the legend of Yoshitsune’s Flight North, Yoshitsune, the famous samurai, and his troupes escaped from Hiraizumi and fled north by sea. They decided to disembark when the reached the Tanesashi Coast and stopped to rest at this shrine located several hundred meters into the mountains.
