Lonely Planet has recently released their top travel recommendations for the year 2020, and they have named the Tohoku region as #3 on their best regions list.
Citing its recovery from the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami as well as its beautiful natural scenery, interesting culture, great food, and warm people, the world-renowned travel company praised the still relatively untraveled area of northeastern Japan.
The team at Visit Hachinohe are thrilled by the news. While we hope that this recognition will eventually lead to an increased interest in the Hachinohe Area, it is first and foremost a wonderful recognition of all the effort and hard work that has been carried out by the people of Tohoku as a whole.
The Tohoku region has faced many challenges in its near and distant past. This has created a singular resilience in its people, one that has never embittered them but has instead only lead to making their lives, culture, and hospitality all the more brilliant. In every village, town, and city of the region, people are continuously striving to preserve their local folk arts, regional traditions, and culinary specialties that have been handed down from generation to generation.
