Aiming to recreate the hustle and bustle of Sapporo’s Tanukikoji Strip (Hokkaido’s No. 1 entertainment district), this alley has similarly been called “Tanukikoji” since the late 1940s. With its retro-style streetscape, the atmosphere will make you feel like you’ve just stepped into the set of an old movie. It has appeared in actress Sayuri Yoshinaga’s JR “Adults’ Day Off Club” series of commercials as a location in an ad featuring Hachinohe’s alleyways. At first glance, Tanukikoji appears to be a dead-end, but it actually goes all the way through to Gobangai.
